Visiting Knights
On Sunday, May 12th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, Casa Loma will be receiving some special guests for all to meet. Fully armoured Knights will be in Casa Loma to meet with guests and take photos. It will be a wonderful occasion for guests to meet and talk with a Knight about what life was like in a Castle in the Middle Ages.
There is no additional charge for this.
Garden School
Unorthodox Planting Methods, Organic Pest Control
Learn how to correctly stake and train cucumbers and tomatoes in raised beds, maximize garden space with interplanting techniques and how the careful application of water and mulching techniques will enhance your gardens yield. Instruction will be provided on how to control garden pests using organic methods and unorthodox planting methods, such as straw bale culture and container potato production will also be discussed.

URBAN BEEKEEPING
Casa Loma is a leader in urban beekeeping. During this seminar we will discuss the parts of the hive, the 3 castes of honeybees, the seasons of beekeeping and what honeybees do during and in preparation for each season. We will also discuss the challenges of urban beekeeping and the benefits of beekeeping to our flora and human environment.
Guests will learn about honey extraction, winterizing, storage of equipment, bee diseases and pest management. They will learn what to look for when opening a hive and how much time to dedicate to tending the hive.

Preserving the Garden Bounty
Let preserving afficionado Paul Iorfida demonstrate a variety of heirloom preserving techniques. See how to use hot water baths, salt brine and vinegar/water mixtures to preserve tomatoes and pickle vegetables. Sun drying techniques will also be discussed.
Sampling of preserved vegetables will be a special treat!

Putting the Garden to Bed
Get the jump on Spring gardening by first putting your vegetable garden to bed for the Winter. Learn techniques for wintering over vegetable gardens, effective mulching and harvesting and saving seeds for planting in subsequent seasons.
Heirloom tomato and squash seeds will be available to take home.

The Evening will commence in the Library for a quick introduction and breakdown of haunted tales, a sneak peak at your hosts Paranormal Equipment, and perhaps listen to some of the amazing EVP’s captured during some of the investigations that have taken place at The Castle. We will then proceed forward for a mini tour – allowing you, our honoured guests, some extra time to investigate on your own!

Casa Loma is pleased to offer an Archery Workshop catering to adults only. Join our NCCP trained archery coach, Shawn Adams, for an opportunity to learn the history and techniques involved in the ancient sport of archery. This hands-on workshop is suited to beginners and will afford all participants the chance to develop and hone their archery skills.
Casa Loma Archery classes are very popular! Class size is small and limited to 10 people/session. To avoid disappointment, please register early.

Jazz and blues vocalist Cara Matthew released her debut album, "Make You Feel My Love," in 2009. Her record features arrangements of tunes by Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan and other popular artists in a bluesy and jazzy fashion all her own.
